If you can't find the perfect dining area table set in a store, consider creating your own by mixing and matching a table and chairs. Take into account that not all tables are manufactured equal rather than all chairs will fit at your selected table. When making your own set, it's important to make sure that you roughly 12 inches of space between your seat of the chair and the table. This amount of space will fit most people comfortably and it is the most common gap used by furniture manufacturers.
Square or rectangular tables are the most popular, so you'll find the most options in that category in conditions of styles, sizes, and extensions. But a round or oval table can provide you a little more space to go around, because it cuts off the corners but still offers a good surface. For tighter rectangular spaces, the oval might be your best option, said Dyer. Harris added, Round or oval tables can be ideal for parties and conversation because there's no head of the table, too. For squeezing people in, you're limited only by the perimeter of the table-but you can lose a little space for serving pieces once you have your place settings at a round or oval table.
