When looking for dining room decorating ideas, remember that you don't want to overwhelm this refined space with too much clutter. However, simple does not mean plain, which is a room where you may take some stylistic liberties. When decorating dining rooms, think about color schemes (after choosing your table, of course!). Usage of color can really make or break dining area designs, and the cohesion of a matching furniture set allows for colorful decor choices. Try light blue or gray walls for a stylish look, or go timeless with a black and white theme. If you want to stick to white paint, throw in some gold or copper accents, or splashes of bright colors to keep it interesting; geometric patterns, custom-painted ceilings and unique wallpapers are also able to livening up a dining area.
Chairs should not be rickety or wobble. When the chair has a padded seat, the corners should be reinforced with screwed-in (not glued) corner blocks. Padded seats should be removable so that the cover can be changed. Fabric covered chairs may not be appealing if you have young children who are messy eaters. Leather is a superb option for quick cleanup, as is stain resistant microfiber upholstery. Slip covers on Parson's chairs are another easily cleaned option for the dining room.
